Weedicides

Weeds are unwanted plants growing among wanted crops. They compete with the wanted crop for sunlight, nutrients, water, etc. In order to get rid of weeds, weedicides are used.

Transplanted Paddy and Soybean are impacted by various weeds namely: Echinochloa Crus- gali, Eclipta Alba, Commelina Benghalensis, Chenopodium album, Cyperus Rotundua, Phyllanthus Niruri, Partulaca Oleracea, Cyperus Auxillaries, Panicum repens, Digitaria Margi- nata, Echinochloa Colonum, Eragrostis Spp, Trianthema Monogynae.

Crane is an herbicide used for selective, systemic and post-emergence control of weeds. It is highly effective weedicide and hence required in very low dosage. It also belongs to Class B of HRAC (Herbicide Resistance Action Committee) and recommended for use against broad-leaved weeds and sedges in Transplanted Paddy and Soybean crops.

Pack sizes: 15gm.

Mode of Action

Crane works at a low dosage of 15 g|acre and effectively controls most major broad-leaved weeds and sedges in Transplanted Paddy and Soybean. It inhibits Acetolactate Synthase (ALS), also known as Acetohydroxyacid Synthase (AHAS) which is a key enzyme in the bio- synthesis of the branched-chain amino acids namely isoleucine, leucine, and valine. It results in Plant death from events occurring in response to ALS inhibition and low branched-chain amino acid production.

Recommendation:

Dosage: 9.60 to 15 gm per acre
Time of Application:
Transplanted Paddy - 5 to 10 days (spray only once) Soyabean - 3 to 10 days (spray only once)

Method of Application

- Plant protection equipment: Knapsack sprayer fitted with flat fan nozzle is recommended.
- Spray Tank Clean Out:
a. Thoroughly clean all mixing and spray equipment immediately following application by rinsing outside, inside of the tank with clean water and ammonia to give 1% solution. Agitate for 15 minutes after adding water to fill tank completely. Again rinse with clean water.
b. Tank reinstate should be disposed off in a safe manner to prevent environment and water. c. Drift Management: Extreme care should be taken to avail damage by drift into broad level plants outside the target area or onto water sources.
- While preparing large quantity of spray solution, add weedicide solution to a bucket half-filled with water, stir and empty this prepared solution into bulk of water.

Safety recommendations

- Keep away from food stuff, empty food stuff containers and animal food.
- Avoid contact with mouth, eyes and skin.
- Avoid inhalation of the spray mist; spray in the direction of wind.
- Wash thoroughly the contaminated cloths and parts of body after spraying. - Do not smoke, drink, eat or chew while mixing and spraying.
- And wear full protective clothing while mixing and spraying.
- Antidote – No specific antidote is known. Treat symptomatically.
- Always refer to the SDS for detailed information on safety.
